Oops, I did it again

So, okay, I didn’t stop at bumping KDE 3.5.6 and now waiting to get it built so that is all okay, as there was a new ALSA release too (now committed too).

Now I’m rebuilding the MacBook with ~amd64 keywording, as my packages.keywords was getting way too long, and I wasn’t able to get hald to start at boot (continued telling me that hald couldn’t be started because dbus didn’t start, but dbus did start, so I’m not sure what was going on).

Hopefully after that is done and KDE is fine too, I will be able to get back to my break, watch another DVD, try to write a new article or two, and resume my work on Rust that has since stopped to make room for KDE bump.

By the way, now KDE seems to use the same balloon-type characters for Password as Windows XP. I’m not sure if I like that or not.

  1. Well, speaking of balloon character password prompts, I’ve noticed that GDM 2.17 has an option to use asterisks or balloon characters. Coincidence? I think not.

  2. Hi, Diego. Now you can see that you won’t be able to escape from the grasp of Gentoo. :)Anyway, take a good, long holiday and then come back, please. You are my #1 Gentoo developer & blogger. If you ever travel through Central Europe, the Czech Republic, Prague to be more specific, stop by, I’d love to treat you to a beer or two (or whatever drink you prefer).I’m still wondering if I could help out with CJK stuff somehow, but I’m no programmer, I can only test stuff and provide feedback so far. >_<

  3. Hi Diego,I am with Lukas on that one. You are probably my favorite Gentoo dev. Youcertainly seem to enjoy your break andfrom the sound of it, you let Gentoo rule/ruin your life. Get a good restand return to us on your own terms. You shouldn’t lose sleep on Gentoo, I know I don’t but that’s thanks to people like you.You do a lot of stuff that’s needed andit is unfortunately thankless. On my TODO list getting something from Diego’s wish list to bribe him in staying in Gentoo 🙂

  4. I believe the password prompt of Mac OS X had the bullets first, then came Windows XP and then GDM…

  5. On something almost totally unrelated. You all do know that there is a poll, Gentoo developer of the year 2006, in the forum Gentoo Chat? And, yes, Flameeyes is on the list.

  6. aRTs is fine already now, just took me a while to find it, as I don’t use it anymore.Although I sincerely doubt we should depend on the proper PV for it, it usually does not change much between one version to the other anyway. And yes, the ebuilds are package.masked, and while they’re there, you have no right to pretend them to be good to go, that’s why it’s a pre-release, not a release.
