Okay so I continued working on –as-needed. I also started drafting something up for a guide to explain the reasoning of –as-needed and the way to fix packages having problems with it.
First of all, –as-needed did not kill my system at all. Also glibc built fine with it. wx-based packages has to filter it out because they make ld crash, but that’s just a side problem. I’ve added filtering to vlc, mkvtoolnix and wxlib eclass to solve this.
avidemux still fails, and probably so does a few other packages that I don’t have merged but this is going to be fine soon I hope 🙂
For the rest, if you want to spend time testing, –as-needed might be worth the time spent on it.
