It appears that, much as I have been trying to stick to a relatively consistent schedule, the universe does not want to agree. While for the majority of last year I believe I managed to maintain my fortnightly schedule, and I felt well placed to continue so this year, I do expect instead things will get patchy particularly close to my 20 years blogging anniversary, May 31st, 2024.
I say expect because as I’m writing this, it is just February, and I have scheduled this post for the first fortnightly slot that was free — but I also have a handful of drafts that I should be turning into posts to extend the schedule until May at least. Which means I might still be able to prepare enough content for instance on plans or trains, or from hotels, but it’s not something I’m going to count on that at this point.
So, why am I expecting things to get messy? This time is not burn out, not lack of direction, and (hopefully) not a WordPress bug. Instead it is because of a mixture of work changes (I’m going to be working remote, which hopefully is not a repeat of the experience of Working While Locked Down), and changes in the rental market that are making me and my wife consider looking to buy a house outside of London.
This basically means that a lot of open projects I have been looking at will be archived for the time being, and I’m unlikely to be able to return to topics I have left open waiting for me to spend more time researching or implementing or extending tools. On the other hand, this whole process may give me some topic to write about that are unlike the usual technical spiel, so I can’t be quite sure how it’s going to turn one way or the other.
Anyway, if you don’t see me around, that’s almost certainly why.
