Amarok release…

… well, I’ve already written about the release of Amarok 1.4.3 and my request of tester for the MTP devices support (or a device to test with), but as I did that before the actual release, I thought it might be worth trying to help them out 😉

Also, by pointing to the release announcement I can give you a good changelog listing, although I won’t do like certain developers asking you explicitely to digg it … I’ll do it subtly 😛

Kidding a part (sorry sebr, it wasn’t intended as an offence :)), actually I want to use this blog as a way to ask my users what they want out of Amarok in Gentoo right now. The moodbar support that was present in the past via exscalibar is now present with another moodbar package, but I’m not sure if I want to spend time adding that to portage. I haven’t received any bug asking for anything lately, but I want to make sure people are not using external ebuilds just to have features they want; media-sound/amarok is there for this 🙂

So, if you feel like I forgot something, a part musicbrainz support that, as I said, crashes here and I want that fixed before adding it back, please comment on this blog entry, and I’ll try to do my best to provide you with what you need 🙂

Think of this like a “your requests are orders for me” kind of situation, although of course I won’t guarantee I can do everything by myself.

  1. Well, since you asked, I’d really love to see a fix for this issue:http://forums.gentoo.org/vi…I don’t know if this is the kind of request that you had in mind, but I’ve been using amaroK pretty heavily on a Kubuntu system, and haven’t encountered this problem a single time on it. It’s only on my Gentoo system. Any assistance would be most appreciated.

  2. Oh, and speaking of appreciation, I follow your blog pretty regularly through Planet Gentoo. Your one of the few that I read on a regular basis. I know you put a lot of hard work into xine and amaroK and various other packages that I use on a regular basis, so I’d really like to thank you for all your efforts. I know it’s not an easy job, and just want you to know that your work hasn’t gone unnoticed, and is most definitely appreciated. Thanks!

  3. I have to join nitro322 in saying thatwe appreciate your effort and I certainlyfollow your blog on planet gentoo. For all that thanks! Now since you asked for our request on amarok:we now have a pretty good gapless playbackon media files (I suspect that the onlytime I hear gaps between songs anymore iswhen my iMag G4[running gentoo of course] is under a heavy load, building the latestamarok release for example 🙂 ) it wouldbe nice to have proper gapless playback on cds. In both case having gaps between songs when you are listening to an albumlike “the dark side of the moon” by PinkFloyd is just not on.

  4. Hey….as your asking, i would really love to see the moodbar package in portage!

  5. Hossa!Like others I really loved the moodbar feature and would love to see it back in the original ebuild (but I didn’t go as far to use third party ebuilds for it, it’s not like it was _that_ important to me).Musicbrainz support on the other hand was a lot more important to me to fix some tags, especially since it’s not as lazy as I am when it comes to adding things like “year” to MP3 tags ;).
